My personal experience of using Kimi K3
Yes it is a great moment for opensource enthusiasts as Kimi k3 got unveiled. I had used this model for some time now and the results are quite satisfactory. On July 16th they had released a teaser video (Anthropic Grade Cinematic video) and was really curious to actually try out the model.

On the same day later, in the evening they made the model generally available on the kimi platform. With my free tier, I gave it a really simple prompt “kimi. please build me a beautiful web animation of the solar system” (ikr the spellings are even incorrect)
I have been benchmarking the models with this single prompt, which could generate a satisfactory output to JUDGE. And yeah, this model generated a really good interactive animation of the solar system, where I could move infinitely. Starts were visually presented, relative velocities of planets were mapped out correctly. The best part was that there were no noticeable visual errors. Since this was just after the model release I had no issues in token speed and it was generated in a couple of minutes. Next day morning the model was open to use in Opencode GO subscription and had the chance of spending a good load of time with it.
What I can conclude is that it is an expensive model, stubborn, opinionated (it doesn’t question you as the closed-weight SOTA models), but reasoning capabilities are far beyond previous generation open-weight models. They have promised to release the model weights on 27th July, 2026, and it’ll be a massive step in the AI engineering field, which could unlock their latest delta attention mechanism for fast generation.
